Dr. Tim King, a computer scientist known for his work on AmigaDOS, died at the end of July, according to his family. King studied computer science at the University of Cambridge, earning a Ph.D. in 1979. While a student there, he created the Tripos operating system, a preemptive multitasking system written in BCPL. In 1984 he joined MetaComCo, where he adapted Tripos for the Amiga and integrated it into AmigaDOS. After leaving MetaComCo, he founded Perihelion in 1986, focusing on operating systems, parallel processing, and transputer technology, and later established the Internet service provider UK Online. King’s contributions were part of the Amiga’s software history.
