Lindsey Waitt began working as a test project engineer for NASA’s Artemis launch team at Kennedy Space Center.

Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, Waitt first met astronauts Michael Lopez‑Alegria and Albert Sacco Jr. at Worcester Polytechnic Institute during middle school, an experience that sparked her interest in space and engineering.

She earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in aerospace engineering from WPI and later a master’s degree in Space Operations from the University of Colorado.

After graduation, Waitt served as a systems engineer on radar flight‑test missions for a defense contractor before moving to Cape Canaveral in 2022 to work as a systems engineer and program manager for a small satellite company.

She has followed NASA missions from various locations, including watching the 2020 commercial crew flight of Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken and the 2022 Artemis I launch with her family.

In 2024, Waitt joined NASA as a civil servant test project engineer for Artemis II, becoming certified to sit at the launch console for the Space Launch System and Orion spacecraft.

She is one of 14 test project engineers on the Artemis team and the only woman in that group.

Waitt said she was welcomed by her colleagues and emphasized that mission safety and teamwork are the top priorities.

She described her career path as a step toward fulfilling her long‑standing goal of contributing to human spaceflight.
