Strategy shares rose 47.65% over the 30 days ending September 18, the highest one‑month return among Nasdaq‑100 constituents, according to market data updated September 19. The stock closed at $153.92 on September 18 after a 16.39% jump, having opened at $132.25 and briefly touched $154.02. Volume reached 54.34 million shares, far above recent averages. A month earlier the shares had traded at $104.25. The rally lifted Strategy ahead of all other Nasdaq‑100 members in the ranking that uses closing prices of the index’s 101 components.
Strategy’s gain coincides with a rebound in Bitcoin. On the same day Bitcoin climbed above $80,000, reaching an intraday high of $81,258, up more than 5% from the previous session. The price movement followed a week in which the cryptocurrency recovered from $75,560. Crypto‑linked equities broadly rose during the session, as reported by Reuters, while the Nasdaq index also edged higher.
Strategy disclosed that it held 845,050 Bitcoin as of September 13, acquired at a total cost of $63.73 billion, or roughly $75,412 per coin. The holdings represent just over 4% of Bitcoin’s 21 million‑coin ceiling and make Strategy the largest publicly traded corporate holder of the digital asset. The company’s most recent Bitcoin purchase, amounting to 4,603 BTC for $369.7 million, was funded through common‑stock sales that generated $602.8 million in net proceeds. After that purchase the firm paused Bitcoin buying for two reporting periods, with its SEC filings on September 8 and September 14 showing no new acquisitions or sales.
During the pause, Strategy redirected capital toward repurchasing its Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch (STRC) preferred shares. Between August 31 and September 13 the company bought 3.23 million STRC shares for $315.6 million, reducing its preferred‑share balance and lowering future dividend obligations. The firm increased its repurchase authorization for Digital Credit Securities from $1 billion to $2 billion, while leaving its $1 billion common‑stock repurchase program untouched. Approximately $1.05 billion remained under the STRC authorization after the transactions.
The one‑month return of Strategy’s stock outpaces Bitcoin’s price rise over the same period, underscoring the company’s historically amplified exposure to the cryptocurrency’s movements. Nonetheless, the stock remains down more than 55% from its peak a year earlier, and its year‑to‑date performance is essentially flat. Strategy’s balance sheet, as of September 14, listed $5.10 billion in USD Reserve and $1.30 billion in USD Cash, with the remainder of its capital allocation priorities still subject to market conditions and board discretion.
