The USS Abraham Lincoln entered Apra Harbor on Guam on Saturday, marking the first time in nine months that its crew has set foot on U.S. territory. The carrier had been at sea for 208 consecutive days, including nearly seven months operating in the Middle East, before docking. Its arrival followed a five-day stop in Thailand earlier in September, the first regular port visit for the ship in almost nine months. The deployment began on November 21 from San Diego and included a brief logistics stop in Oman in July. The Abraham Lincoln typically makes port calls every 30 to 45 days for maintenance and crew rest, but this deployment featured only a few such visits, including a December stop in Guam. During the deployment, the carrier operated in the U.S. Central Command area, supporting combat operations against Iran and enforcing a maritime blockade of Iranian ports in the Arabian Sea. The ship’s strike group also included the guided-missile destroyer USS Frank E. Petersen Jr., and other vessels such as the USS George H.W. Bush and USS Boxer. Sailors reported shortages of certain foods and drinking water, as well as declining mental health conditions aboard the vessel. At least one crew member was reportedly prevented from jumping from the ship. The USS George Washington, homeported in Yokosuka, Japan, relieved the Abraham Lincoln in the region on August 19. The prolonged deployment raised concerns among crew members and their families about living conditions and operational strain.
