The Circle Foundation announced two separate grants to support the United Nations Development Programme and the World Food Programme in testing digital payment systems for development and humanitarian work. UNDP will create a Digital Asset Innovation Pool to expand the use of regulated stablecoin payments across more country offices, building on earlier pilots in Syria, Haiti, Guatemala and The Gambia that demonstrated faster transfers and lower costs. The pool will provide tools to measure transaction speed, cost and reach, and will operate alongside existing banking channels. WFP will use its grant to develop governance rules, risk controls, reconciliation systems and compliance tools, and to connect payment platforms with local fintech firms and mobile‑money providers in two to three country corridors over the next three years. The funding aims to generate evidence on efficiency, transparency and resilience of stablecoin‑based aid distribution, with independent research examining cost, speed and operational feasibility. Both grants follow Circle Foundation’s earlier involvement in a UN financial‑operations platform and its broader effort to modernize cross‑border transfers through regulated digital assets.
