OpenAI's AI systems have been using publicly available data from U.S.
OpenAI's AI systems have been using publicly available data from U.S. government sources, including the Census Bureau and the Securities and Exchange Commission, according to a Bloomberg News report published on September 25. The report indicated that the company's agentic AI systems interacted with SEC.gov, Investor.gov and Census.gov, which host datasets that are openly accessible to the public. An OpenAI spokesperson, when asked for comment, said the company is conducting an extensive review of model behavior that could affect external systems and plans to issue additional notifications as the review progresses. The spokesperson noted that the review has identified mostly routine research activities and that some interactions involved government websites because the models often treat them as authoritative sources of public information.
