A startup called Ricursive Intelligence is developing artificial intelligence systems that can design semiconductor chips, learn from each iteration, and refine subsequent designs. The goal is to compress a process that typically spans two to three years into a matter of weeks.
Co-founders Anna Goldie and Azalia Mirhoseini will present their work at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026, where they plan to discuss closing the feedback loop between AI and chip development, building self-improving systems, and addressing bottlenecks in hardware innovation.
Goldie and Mirhoseini previously led AlphaChip at Google, an AI system capable of generating chip layouts in hours instead of months. Their contributions helped shape the design of multiple generations of Google’s Tensor Processing Units.
Ricursive Intelligence aims to expand on this foundation by creating tools that automate and accelerate chip design across multiple projects. The system is intended to retain knowledge from prior designs, enabling faster and more efficient development of new architectures.
The company was founded in late 2025 and has raised $335 million in funding, including a $300 million Series A round that valued the company at $4 billion. Investors include Nvidia and other partners.
By speeding up chip design, Ricursive believes it can enable the exploration of novel hardware configurations and improve the efficiency of AI systems. The company’s approach centers on creating a continuous loop where AI designs hardware, that hardware supports more advanced AI, and those systems further refine the design process.
Goldie, who holds a PhD in computer science from Stanford and was recognized as one of MIT Technology Review’s 35 Innovators Under 35, leads the company as founder and CEO. Mirhoseini serves as founder and CTO and is an assistant professor at Stanford, where she directs the Scaling Intelligence Lab.
Disrupt 2026 will take place October 13–15 at Moscone West in San Francisco. The event will feature over 200 sessions, 250+ speakers, and 300+ startup exhibitions, drawing an estimated 10,000 attendees from the global tech ecosystem.
Tickets are currently available with discounts of up to $200 for early registration. A second pass can be purchased at 50% off select tiers before midnight Pacific Time.
The session featuring Goldie and Mirhoseini is part of a broader program focused on emerging technologies, infrastructure, and the future of artificial intelligence development.
