A private dinner hosted by The Register in New York on Tuesday 27 October will bring together senior technology, infrastructure and data executives to discuss modernizing file storage and governance in distributed work environments. The event, running from 6.00pm to 8.30pm at The Capital Grille, 120 W 51st Street, is invitation-only and limited to 30 attendees.
Joe Fay will chair the gathering, which operates under the Chatham House Rule, ensuring that statements made during the discussion remain off the record. LucidLink’s Holly Bossert is confirmed as a participant, joining the conversation alongside other industry leaders.
The dinner centers on practical challenges arising from the shift away from centralized office infrastructure. Attendees will explore how distributed teams rely on legacy systems like network-attached storage (NAS), virtual private networks (VPNs), and sync-and-download workflows — tools originally designed for office-based collaboration. These systems often create duplicated storage costs, version confusion, and governance gaps, even as they remain in use.
Discussion topics include managing growth in unstructured data, avoiding redundant storage expenses, maintaining version control, and assessing security implications of current workflows. The focus is not on replacing existing infrastructure but on building upon it through pragmatic modernization strategies.
The evening aims to foster candid dialogue among peers who are actively managing these challenges, rather than presenting theoretical architectures or promotional content. Invitations can be requested through The Register’s official channels.
