The White House announced it would not allow CNN to accompany President Donald Trump on a scheduled Saturday flight to Knoxville, Tennessee, according to two individuals briefed on the decision. The move threatens the continuity of the television pool rotation that had briefly resumed earlier in the week.
The restriction follows a week‑long exclusion of CNN, along with MSNBC and Politico, from White House premises. A federal judge had reinstated limited access for those outlets early on Thursday, but the administration’s latest directive removes CNN from the pool for the upcoming Knoxville visit.
The pool system, which rotates among five networks — ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox News and CNN — had restarted on Friday after being paused in response to the earlier bans. CBS acted as the designated pooler for that day and captured footage of Trump’s meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, though a midday event at the National Archives was covered by CNN as the pooler.
A CNN spokesperson later confirmed the reporting outlined in The Washington Post. The White House did not provide a comment in response to inquiries. When the administration released its schedule for the following day late on Friday, it omitted any designation of a primary TV pooler for the Saturday flight.
