The Drift Foundation has opened a formal claims process for individuals who held assets on its platform during the April 1 exploit, offering redemption of DFX tokens tied to verified losses. Eligible wallets will receive one DFX token for each USDT of documented loss, with initial redemption values set at approximately 0.0104 USDT per DFX. The redemption mechanism calculates payouts by dividing the Recovery Pool’s USDT balance by the remaining DFX supply, resulting in early redemptions returning only a fraction of potential future value. Users may claim tokens through any wallet that held DFX on or after April 1, provided they maintain sufficient SOL for transaction fees and accept the program’s terms. The claim window remains open until January 1, 2028, after which all unclaimed DFX will be permanently burned. Funding for the recovery pool draws from Velocity’s share of daily protocol revenue, Tether’s committed 127.5 million USDT allocation, partner contributions, and any assets recovered through legal or bounty channels. Velocity’s contribution follows a tiered structure: 60% of the first 30,000 USDT in daily revenue, 70% between 30,000 and 100,000 USDT, and 90% above that threshold. The Insurance Fund, which previously absorbed trading-related losses, is not being used to offset exploit-related damages. The foundation emphasizes that redemption transactions are atomic — either both DFX tokens are burned and USDT is received, or neither occurs. Payouts are rounded down to the nearest 0.000001 USDT to ensure precision. The original exploit, which resulted in approximately 3.11 million USDT in verified losses, stemmed from a social engineering campaign in which attackers impersonated quantitative trading representatives to gain access to user accounts. Forensic analysis traced subsequent movements of stolen funds, including transfers through privacy tools like Tornado Cash. While Drift’s governance token DRIFT remains distinct from the recovery asset DFX, the redemption framework allows holders to trade or transfer DFX freely once claimed. Secondary market value will depend on external demand, separate from the fixed redemption rate. The process reflects a structured attempt to distribute available recovery resources without guaranteeing full restitution, operating within the constraints of on-chain execution and predefined funding rules.
