Apple introduced a second-generation HomePod mini on Tuesday, featuring a new S10 chip designed to enhance computational audio processing and real-time optimization of sound dynamics. The device incorporates a 'Sound Glow' function that projects colored light patterns from its top surface, synchronized with music playback and derived from album artwork hues. Up to four units can be coordinated with an Apple TV 4K to deliver multi-speaker surround sound, with each speaker's output adjusted based on room positioning and acoustic calibration. The HomePod mini 2 supports integration with Apple Intelligence-enabled devices, enabling voice recognition for up to six household members and personalized content delivery through linked iPhones or iPads. It retains functionality as a smart home hub, including sound detection for emergency alerts and compatibility with HomeView, Apple's touchscreen home automation display. Available in pink, green, blue, white, and midnight finishes, the $149 model begins shipping October 30, with pre-orders currently open.
