A recent Government Accountability Office report suggested that Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers should have their body-worn cameras turn on automatically whenever they draw a firearm. The recommendation came after a series of ICE shootings drew public scrutiny. While the Department of Homeland Security accepted most findings in the GAO analysis, it rejected the camera activation proposal. DHS financial management director Jane Doe cited concerns that automatic activation could create operational hazards, such as unintended recordings during normal patrols, and might capture sensitive interactions with informants or victims without consent. The agency did not elaborate on alternative oversight measures it plans to adopt.
