Xbox is considering a shift that could restrict future releases of major franchises such as Fallout, The Elder Scrolls and Minecraft to its own hardware and services. A survey sent to a small group of Xbox Insider Program participants asked respondents where they would most likely play new titles from those series if they were no longer available on PlayStation, Nintendo or other non‑Microsoft platforms. Respondents could choose from options including playing on an existing Xbox console, buying a new Xbox Series X|S, switching to PC, skipping the content entirely, or selecting another response. A second question extended the scenario to all Xbox‑developed franchises except Call of Duty, which would remain multiplatform under a 2023 agreement with Nintendo, Nvidia and Sony. That concession was part of Microsoft’s effort to secure regulatory approval for its $68 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The survey was first reported by Windows Central. The potential changes come as new Xbox leadership, headed by CEO Asha Sharma, has already implemented workforce reductions, studio reshuffling and divestitures, and has signaled a broader reassessment of exclusivity strategies. The company has also announced timing‑limited releases such as Forza Horizon 6, which will not arrive on PlayStation 5 until 2027, and has created an AI‑focused unit called Xbox Labs. Bethesda Softworks, the developer behind Fallout and The Elder Scrolls, has historically released its flagship titles across multiple platforms, including a recent Switch 2 version of Skyrim. If the proposed exclusivity were enacted, it could affect anticipated future installments like Fallout 5 and The Elder Scrolls 6, though no official policy has been confirmed.
