Apple announced that demand for its upcoming iPhone Duo has been "nothing short of extraordinary," according to a statement provided to the Financial Times. The company also indicated it is "working hard to get this revolutionary new product into customers' hands as quickly as possible."

Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo opened at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on Friday, October 16, 2026. Within minutes, delivery estimates shifted from October 23 to November, and by 5:30 a.m., projected delivery dates had moved to January 25, 2027. Apple confirmed that orders placed now will not arrive until early 2027, with no possibility of securing a 2026 delivery.

Prior to the pre-order launch, industry analysts had speculated that manufacturing constraints could limit initial availability. Apple has previously managed to accelerate shipments in similar situations, but the company has not guaranteed any early delivery this time.

The iPhone Duo is priced starting at $1,999, with configurations reaching $3,199 for 2TB of storage. Apple's website currently lists limited store pickup options, suggesting some units might be available for purchase at retail locations beginning October 23. A notice on the site directs customers to check back on October 24 for updated availability details.

Apple hardware engineering vice president Tom Marieb discussed the device's design in an interview with TechRadar, noting that the iPhone Duo features a matte nano-texture display intended to reduce glare and lessen the visibility of the fold line. When questioned about long-term crease visibility, Marieb did not provide a definitive timeline for how the display might degrade over time.

On October 1, 2026, Apple shared a collection of six photographs taken with the iPhone Duo on its official Instagram account. The images were captured by photographers Jake Michaels and Jason Nocito as part of a project commissioned by the company.

Analysts have observed that the iPhone Duo carries a premium compared to current models, costing $800 more than the iPhone 18 Pro at equivalent storage capacities and $700 more than the iPhone 18 Pro Max. The device's primary trade-off involves adopting a folding screen while incorporating nearly 40 compromises across camera systems, daily usability, and total cost of ownership.
