Cross River Bank announced on Oct.
Cross River Bank announced on Oct. 15 that it will embed Ripple's US dollar-backed RLUSD stablecoin into its core banking system, granting fintechs a single API to access the token alongside traditional payment rails. The integration leverages the XRP Ledger and the bank's proprietary Core Operating System, allowing customers to convert between US dollars and RLUSD, settle cross-border transfers, and tap into ACH, wire and real-time payment networks without building separate blockchain infrastructure. Services are currently limited to a subset of US states, though the release did not name them. Adam Goller, head of fintech banking at Cross River, said the move lets businesses move money globally using one provider rather than multiple vendors. The partnership expands Ripple's distribution channel through a bank that already supplies payment infrastructure to other financial firms. RLUSD, distinct from the cryptocurrency XRP, is issued on the XRP Ledger and maintains a market capitalization of roughly $2.4 billion as of Oct. 16. Cross River's stablecoin platform, already in development, now includes RLUSD as an additional payment rail, offering faster settlement — XRP Ledger transactions settle in three to five seconds — while retaining conventional options such as ACH and wires. The integration also aims to give payment networks, issuers and acquirers a flexible settlement method that can reduce delays. Luca Cosentino, head of crypto at Cross River, previously described features such as issuer integrations, automated liquidity and standardized APIs for direct stablecoin transfers from dollar balances. The collaboration follows a similar rollout by Standard Chartered, which introduced RLUSD custody for institutional clients in Dubai earlier this month, and reflects broader industry efforts to embed stablecoins within existing banking relationships.
