Caplan has received Emmy nominations for her work on Masters of Sex and Fleishman Is in Trouble and has appeared in The Interview, a film that generated controversy. Hawley previously noted that the gameplay structure of video games, including skippable cutscenes, may not translate well to a television narrative, stating his aim is to engage with the franchise without adapting any specific game. The series will feature a new cast and setting each season, similar to anthology series such as True Detective and The White Lotus. No release date or detailed plot has been announced.
