Yūki Yaku announced on X, formerly Twitter, that the Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki light novel series will conclude with its 12th volume on October 16. The author shared the update via a post on the platform, marking the end of a series that began in 2016.
Shogakukan published the first volume in May 2016, pairing Yaku’s writing with illustrations by Fly. The series gained steady popularity, appearing in the top 10 of the Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! rankings from 2017 through 2019. Subsequent installments included supplemental short story collections released as volumes 6.5 and 8.5. A 13th volume was shipped in January 2024, though the narrative arc was positioned to conclude with the 12th.
The story centers on Tomozaki, a prodigious gamer who views real-world social interaction as an unbalanced, ruleless game. His perspective shifts after meeting a peer of equal skill, who begins mentoring him in social strategies. The narrative blends gaming metaphors with themes of personal growth and connection.
An anime adaptation premiered in January 2021, with Funimation handling the English-language stream and dub as the series aired in Japan. A second television season debuted in January 2024, with Crunchyroll providing a dubbed version. Two OVA episodes were bundled with home video releases in May and June 2021.
Yen Press is releasing the series in English, bringing the full run to international readers. The conclusion of the light novel series marks the end of a decade-long publication run, with the final volume scheduled for release in mid-October.
