OpenAI streamed its annual developer conference on September 29, 2026, revealing a suite of updates aimed at expanding the capabilities of its AI platform.

The centerpiece of the event was the introduction of "dots," persistent AI agents that operate continuously within ChatGPT. According to the company, these agents maintain their own memory, can browse the web, and interact with more than 4,000 third‑party applications. Dots are designed to learn from user feedback over time and are built on the newly announced Astra model, which OpenAI describes as its most advanced system to date. Access to dots will be included in the existing ChatGPT Pro subscription without additional usage fees.

Alongside the agents, OpenAI presented "ChatGPT Space," a collaborative environment intended for team projects and AI‑assisted content creation. Within Space, users can generate and edit interactive pages that combine text, charts, images, checklists, and dashboards. The company said the feature is meant to serve as a shared workspace where humans and AI can co‑author documents in real time.

OpenAI also disclosed details of a new model release, GPT‑6.1 Sol, which refines the earlier GPT‑6 Sol architecture. The firm reported that GPT‑6.1 Sol achieves performance comparable to GPT‑6 Astra in tasks such as autonomous coding and computer use while reducing input and output token costs by roughly 80 percent. Cached input pricing was set at $0.10 per million tokens, a reduction of 95 percent relative to standard input rates and half of the previous GPT‑6 Sol price.

The conference concluded with a summary of additional offerings, including a premium subscription tier priced at $500 per month and expanded integration options for developers. All announced features are slated for rollout over the coming months, with further technical documentation available on OpenAI’s official website.

The announcements were made during a live stream that began at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, and a recording of the event remains accessible through the company's media channel.
