Riftbound, the trading card game tied to League of Legends, will mark its first anniversary in Western markets on October 31. The game has released four sets to date, with a fifth set, Radiance, scheduled for launch on October 23.
The upcoming set introduces Overnumbered variants of select cards, including a reimagined version of Ekko, Boy Who Shattered Time. This variant features artwork distinct from previous iterations and introduces new gameplay mechanics.
The Overnumbered Ekko card is classified as a Legend with Fury and Mind colors. Its ability allows players to exhaust Ekko and one additional rune to empower him. When disempowered and exhausted, the card reduces the cost of the next unit played that turn by 2, provides a recycled rune of any color, and grants the unit the effect "Kill me at end of turn."
The card's design reflects Ekko's thematic connection to time manipulation, extending his temporal abilities to other units in a player's deck. These units are returned to the discard pile at the end of the turn. The mechanic may encourage deck-building strategies centered around Accelerate cards, which allow units to enter the battlefield ready to attack. Accelerate requires one exhausted rune and one recycled rune to play; the Overnumbered Ekko's cost-reduction effect could lower the overall resource investment needed.
Radiance, the fifth major set for Riftbound, is set to launch on October 23 through local game stores and major retailers. Pre-release events, referred to as "Pre-Rifts," will begin on October 16 at participating stores.
