Apple Wallet now allows Virginia residents to add a digital driver's license to the app, becoming the 15th U.S. state to support the feature.

The digital ID can be displayed at select TSA checkpoints in more than 250 U.S. airports, at participating businesses and apps, and is compatible with Japan's My Number Card. Apple has indicated plans to expand the service to North Carolina, Oklahoma and Utah later this year, and previously announced rollouts for Connecticut, Kentucky and Mississippi.

To add the ID, users open Wallet, tap the plus icon, select Driver's License and ID Cards, choose Virginia, and follow the on‑screen instructions. The credential is presented by tapping the device on an identity reader; Face ID or Touch ID authorizes the release of the requested information. The feature does not require the device to be unlocked or handed over, but law enforcement still requires a physical ID during traffic stops, and acceptance by businesses remains limited.

Apple has not disclosed a timeline for broader adoption beyond the states already listed.
