Christian metal band Demon Hunter filed a lawsuit on August 18 in the California Central District Court against Netflix and live‑entertainment promoter AEG Presents, alleging trademark infringement related to the 2025 animated film KPop Demon Hunters. The band, operating through Hyde Lane, claimed that Netflix and AEG Presents used the film’s trademark in a global concert tour announced in May, which it said caused consumer confusion and diluted the band’s brand. According to the complaint, the defendants “eclipse” the band’s marks and misappropriate their source‑identifying significance, leading consumers to perceive an affiliation between the band and the film. A Netflix spokesperson said the allegations are “without merit” and that the company intends to vigorously defend the case. Demon Hunter formed in Seattle in the early 2000s and released its first major album in 2002; the group has since issued 12 studio albums, the latest titled There Was a Light Here in 2025. KPop Demon Hunters, directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, premiered on Netflix and in select theaters on June 20, 2025, and has become the most streamed film globally with 500 million views as of March 13. The film’s first sing‑along event in August 2025 made it the first to top the U.S. weekend box office, and a sequel is planned for 2029. The lawsuit remains pending, with no further rulings expected at this time.
