Flipboard announced that it is acquiring Graze, a Portland‑based startup that builds tools for creating, publishing and managing feeds on the AT Protocol, the open technical standard behind Bluesky. Graze has delivered more than 41 billion posts to roughly 12 million users since its launch 21 months ago and hosts over 7,000 feeds, with about 60 % of its traffic currently monetized. Its ad model places contextual ads in curated feeds, allowing creators to earn revenue without tracking individual users. The revenue split is 70 % to the feed creator and 30 % to Graze. Flipboard CEO Mike McCue said the ad technology supports a privacy‑preserving vision for the open social web and that revenue sharing benefits creators. The acquisition follows Flipboard’s integration of Graze’s technology into its Surf app, and the two companies intend to expand feed creation across the AT Protocol, including Flipboard’s own applications. Graze co‑founder and CEO Devin Gaffney said the partnership provides access to Flipboard’s advertiser relationships and infrastructure, accelerating development. Terms of the transaction have not been disclosed; Graze raised $1 million in early 2025 and operates with two employees.
