Gamescom opened in Cologne, Germany, with the 233,000‑square‑meter exhibition floor sold out and more than 1,600 exhibitors participating. Organizers reported that hundreds of thousands of attendees visited the show, which is held annually in August. The event attracted visitors from 128 countries and generated more than 1.1 billion digital views. Planning for each edition begins during the current show, using feedback from attendees, exhibitors and industry partners to shape hall layouts, crowd flow and program structure. Success is measured by visitor numbers, trade visitor presence, exhibitor count and digital reach, as well as the quality of the experience for fans, creators and industry professionals. The show partnered with Geoff Keighley’s Opening Night Live to launch the week with major announcements that are then explored on‑site and through digital programming. Games Done Quick will host a three‑day speedrunning event at Gamescom 2026, streaming worldwide to support the Gaming for Democracy initiative. To aid smaller developers, Gamescom offers dedicated indie exhibition space, an invest circle for meeting investors, and digital showcases such as the Gamescom Awesome Indies show and Steam event. Regional editions, including Gamescom Asia × Thailand Game Show and Gamescom Latam, have expanded the brand’s reach in Asia and South America. The organizers said they will continue to add multilingual studio content, including Mandarin and Japanese, to broaden global accessibility.
