Apple will roll out iOS 27.2 next week, delivering updates to six of its core applications for iPhone users. The release includes refinements to Messages, Apple TV, FaceTime, Home, Apple Podcasts, and Games.
Messages will receive Suggested Actions, a feature that offers contextual shortcuts beneath conversation threads. When a message relates to an event, reminder, or note, the system may propose creating a calendar entry, setting a task, or adding content to a note. Users can customize which suggestion types appear. The functionality, initially tested during the iOS 27 beta earlier this year, returns with expanded options for personalization.
Apple TV gains a profiles system on iPhone and iPad alongside iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2. The feature enables distinct viewing histories and recommendation profiles within a shared account, mirroring functionality previously limited to tvOS. Profile selection appears upon launching the TV app, with the option to disable the interface if desired. This addition aims to support households where devices are shared, particularly with children.
FaceTime’s Dual Capture receives an update in iOS 27.2, extending the ability to broadcast both front and rear camera feeds during group calls. The feature, available on compatible iPhone models including the iPhone 17 series and newer, allows participants to maintain dual-camera views without additional configuration. Activation follows standard camera switching gestures.
The Home app introduces two automation enhancements for smart lock users. Lock After Closing permits setting a delay period after a door closes before it automatically secures, offering more precise control than prior time-based triggers tied to unlock events. Door Left Open addresses prolonged door exposure by notifying users when an entry remains open beyond a specified duration, provided compatible hardware is installed.
Apple Podcasts gains structural changes to its Up Next queue. The section now separates into New Episodes and Continue Playing, distinguishing between unplayed content from followed shows and paused recordings from partially consumed episodes. This reorganization seeks to clarify user progress tracking within the Home tab interface.
Games receives minor interface updates, including visibility of recently downloaded but unplayed titles on the Home tab. Achievement milestones and leaderboard metrics are also updated for improved accessibility. The changes reflect incremental refinements rather than transformative overhauls across the updated applications.
The rollout coincides with Apple’s broader push toward enhanced smart home integration and content personalization. While specific release timing remains unspecified beyond the upcoming week, the update underscores ongoing investments in ecosystem cohesion across communication, media, and home automation tools.
