Mach9, a startup that began in 2021 as Mach9 Robotics, has secured $34 million in Series A funding to accelerate development of its AI-driven computer-aided design software for civil engineering workflows. The round was co-led by First Round Capital and Bessemer Venture Partners, with participation from Prudence and Quiet Capital. The company shifted focus from hardware-based inspection tools to AI software after determining that data capture devices were not the primary bottleneck in construction projects.

Alex Baikovitz, who founded the company, explained that engineers faced significant delays in transforming laser scan and image data into usable survey information. "The real pain was in their workflows," he said, noting that existing software required months to process site data and involved manual tasks taking approximately one week per mile. Mach9’s platform automates this process, reducing time requirements by up to 10 times while maintaining centimeter-level accuracy.

The software generates initial design drafts from survey data, which engineers then refine. Baikovitz emphasized that the system was built with industry-specific accuracy requirements, stating that "off-the-shelf models are not able to deliver at the accuracies that the industry demands." Customers use the platform for surveying, asset management, and infrastructure planning, with implementations reported across more than 2,500 projects and nearly 100 private beta clients.

The funding will support product development, hiring of industry specialists, and organizational scaling. Baikovitz reflected that the initial hardware phase provided valuable customer insights, particularly from transportation agencies like those in Texas, which use the platform to improve safety and efficiency in statewide mapping initiatives.

Mach9 competes with other technology firms attempting to modernize construction workflows, including CivilGrid, which recently raised $26 million for its underground mapping platform, and Blueprints AI, a participant in TechCrunch Disrupt’s Startup Battlefield.

The company serves civil engineering organizations that require licensed professionals to validate final deliverables, maintaining liability standards within the industry. Baikovitz noted that customer feedback confirmed a need for better software rather than cheaper hardware, shaping the company’s current development priorities.
