A man drove a car into a group of pedestrians in Caen, France, around 10:15 p.m. local time on Wednesday, killing one person and injuring ten before being taken into custody. The incident occurred opposite the train station and appeared to follow a confrontation, according to local prefect David Claviere. The deputy prosecutor said investigators found no indication of a terrorist motive at this stage. The suspect, a 26‑year‑old Russian‑born man, was known to police only for traffic offenses and had not been flagged by intelligence services. He fled the scene but was arrested in Ouistreham, about 20 kilometers away, a police source reported. Seven victims remained in critical condition and three suffered minor injuries, Claviere said. Police have opened an investigation on charges of murder and aggravated assault. The investigation is ongoing and no further details about the suspect’s identity or motive have been released.
