Poland’s National Institute of Telecommunications said the number of days with intentional GNSS signal interference rose sharply along the country’s northern coast, affecting nearly two‑thirds of days in the first half of August.
The institute’s analysis released on 26 August showed that interference ranges from partial single‑frequency disruption to multi‑hour outages across all GNSS bands, beginning with a marked increase at the start of 2026.
During the first 19 days of August, significant interference across all GNSS bands was recorded on 63% of days, according to the institute. Smartphones and other civilian receivers in the region experienced navigation problems, and shared transport systems such as city bikes, scooters and municipal fleets were also affected, as were drones used for recreation or commerce.
High levels of interference were also reported in May and June, when 70% of days in each month saw multi‑hour disruptions across all bands, while only 10% of May days and 13% of June days were free of interference.
The institute described the interference as deliberate and linked to electronic warfare but did not identify the source. Polish authorities have previously attributed a substantial share of GNSS disruptions in the Baltic region to Russia.
In July 2025, Poland’s Civil Aviation Authority presented evidence to the International Civil Aviation Organization indicating that interference affecting the Baltic Sea and northern and eastern Europe originated from Russian territory. The ICAO Council subsequently called on Russia to cease the interference, a request that has not been heeded.
The institute continues to monitor the situation and has not identified the source.
