Professor Jason Arday's memoir "Great and Unfortunate Things" is scheduled for release in the United Kingdom on Thursday, following his death on Aug. 14.

Arday, who was appointed to a professorship at Cambridge University in 2023, became the youngest Black professor in the institution's history. He faced public scrutiny after allegations emerged that his academic work involved plagiarism and that he inflated athletic and fundraising achievements.

The memoir, previously published in the United States, was released in the UK at the request of his family, according to Simon & Schuster. The publisher declined to provide further comment on the book's content.

Cambridge announced on Aug. 5 that it had opened an investigation into Arday's appointment after receiving new information about his qualifications and honorary appointments. The university had initially defended him, stating that earlier plagiarism allegations were investigated and found unfounded.

Coverage of Arday's case intensified, with some British newspapers noting that his memoir omitted references to his claim of running 600 miles in six days to raise charity funds. In a July 31 interview with the Times of London, Arday acknowledged past mistakes, attributing them to his autism and limited oversight early in his career, and rejected accusations that he was a liar, fantasist, or academic fraud, saying they were motivated by racism and ableism.

His family issued a statement saying that Arday had been clear about wanting his memoir published and that they were grieving his loss. They called on the media to give them space.
