YouTube announced that it is not conducting any test to hide the dislike button from viewers, according to a statement from company spokesperson Kimberly Taylor. The clarification came after multiple users on X posted screenshots suggesting the button had been moved into the three‑dot menu for regular users.
The company explained that the change will only affect creators when they view their own uploaded videos. In that context, the dislike button will appear behind the three‑dot menu, but the public count of dislikes will remain accessible through YouTube Studio. Taylor said the new interface will begin rolling out to creators over the next few weeks.
This development follows earlier adjustments to the platform’s dislike functionality. In late 2021, YouTube removed the public display of dislike counts across the site, citing concerns about harassment. Earlier this year, the company also eliminated the dislike button from Shorts.
Taylor’s statement emphasized that the move is intended to give creators more control over how they interact with their content while preserving the ability for viewers to signal disapproval through the platform’s internal analytics.
The Verge reported the initial screenshots and obtained the official response from YouTube, confirming that no broader experiment to conceal the dislike button is underway.
