SEC Wins NanoBit Crypto Fraud Case, Court Orders Over $5.5M

117d ago · Source: cryptonews

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission secured a default judgment against NanoBit Limited and several affiliated companies, ordering them to pay more than $5.5 million after finding that a WhatsApp‑based investment scheme involved alleged fraud. The judgment was entered by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York on June 16.

The case alleged that NanoBit and its partners used group chats on messaging apps, false broker claims and counterfeit initial coin offering pitches to persuade investors to join WhatsApp groups. The defendants presented trading interfaces that displayed crypto prices and account balances, but no actual transactions occurred. According to the SEC, the scheme diverted more than $2 million to bank accounts in Hong Kong and misused additional crypto assets.

The court ordered NanoBit, Radiant Horizons Limited, Sweet Karma Fashion Inc., Zhao Tropical Deli Inc., Jiajie Liu and Hua Zhao to pay penalties, disgorgement and interest, resulting in a total payment obligation of approximately $5.52 million. The judgment was issued nearly two years after the SEC filed its complaint in September 2024.

The ruling adds to a series of enforcement actions targeting crypto‑related fraud. In May 2024 the SEC charged Texas resident Nathan Fuller with an alleged $12.3 million AI‑driven arbitrage scheme, and earlier in 2024 it identified NanoBit and CoinW6 among relationship‑investment scam cases. TRM Labs warned in June 2026 that scammers had created World Cup‑related crypto operations, including fake ticketing sites and betting schemes, while Investor.gov issued an alert in December 2025 urging investors to avoid reliance on group‑chat information.

The decision highlights the SEC’s continued focus on digital asset fraud as regulators develop broader policy frameworks for the crypto market.

Bitmine Increases Ethereum Holdings to 5.7 Million after Joining Russell 1000

117d ago · Source: cointelegraph

Bitmine Immersion Technologies added more than 27,000 Ether to its holdings last week, bringing its total ETH holdings to 5.7 million tokens. The increase raised Bitmine's share of the total ETH supply to about 4.7% of the 120.7 million tokens in circulation. The company announced the purchase on Monday, stating that the $43 million transaction brought its average acquisition price to $1,569 per ETH. Bitmine remains the largest publicly traded corporate holder of Ether. Its inclusion in the Russell 1000 index is expected to attract hundreds or thousands of additional institutional investors, according to chairman Tom Lee. Lee noted that up to 25% of the market value of a Russell 1000 stock can be owned by passive index funds. Bitmine shares rose 1.7% to $13.80 on Monday, but the stock fell 9% over the previous week in line with a decline in Ether's price. Ether fell below $1,600 last week, and Lee commented that reduced holdings reflected typical investor behavior after a three‑month price decline. In addition to Bitmine, rival treasury firms Sharplink and Forward Industries, crypto exchange Gemini, and Galaxy Digital were added to the Russell 3000 Index on Friday. The addition of these firms to major indices signals growing institutional interest in cryptocurrency assets despite ongoing price volatility.

Private Keys Accounted for 40% of $16 Billion Crypto Hack Losses, Industry Says

117d ago · Source: coindesk

Crypto hacks have resulted in about $16.7 billion in losses, with roughly 40% attributed to stolen private keys, according to DeFiLlama data.

Security experts say the majority of these losses stem from poor key management and operational weaknesses in systems, personnel, and third‑party tools rather than vulnerabilities in blockchain technology or smart contracts.

CertiK has observed a rise in operational security incidents and a decline in smart contract exploits, indicating attackers focus on the weakest points.

Leo Fan, founder and CEO of ZK Proof Layer Cysic, said private key hacks represent a key‑management failure, not a cryptographic one.

The private key functions like a password; it is only exposed when used, stored, or shared, which creates a risk of theft.

Because a private key must remain active to sign transactions, it is hosted on servers that contain credentials, software dependencies and human operators, making it a frequent target.

Wish Wu, co‑founder and CEO of Pharos, noted that early blockchain designs relied on a single private key controlling all assets, conflicting with traditional finance security practices that separate duties and use multiple approvals.

The February 2025 Bybit hack demonstrated this risk: attackers compromised a third‑party developer tool, injected malicious code into a wallet’s web interface, and tricked executives into signing away $1.5 billion in Ethereum.

The industry is responding with multi‑party computation wallets, account abstraction that adds social recovery and spending limits, passkey‑based login, hardware wallet enforcement, and improved key management standard operating procedures.

However, many of these solutions are implemented as optional features rather than core protocol design, and security is still often treated as an add‑on rather than a built‑in principle.

Security experts advise treating security as an ongoing discipline across development, deployment and operations, emphasizing human factors, training and awareness as the first line of defense.

The industry continues to develop these measures while the prevalence of private key theft remains a key challenge.

SEC Wins $5.4 Million Judgment in NanoBit Crypto Fraud Case

117d ago · Source: cointelegraph

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission announced a $5.4 million judgment against NanoBit Ltd and its affiliates on Monday. The judgment was entered by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York on June 16, concluding that the defendants violated securities laws. The court ordered NanoBit, Radiant Horizons, Sweet Karma, Zhao Deli and orchestrator Jiajie Liu to pay fines, disgorgement and prejudgment interest totaling $5.4 million and to cease any further issuance, purchase or sale of securities. The SEC alleged that operators used WhatsApp groups and a falsified dashboard to persuade investors that their funds were growing, claiming the platform was an SEC‑registered broker and promoting fake initial coin offerings. In reality, the complaint said, no transactions occurred on the platform and more than $2 million was transferred to bank accounts in Hong Kong while hundreds of thousands of dollars in crypto assets were misappropriated. Investors who sought withdrawals were told to pay large fees or were removed from the groups. The ruling follows other SEC enforcement actions, including a $12 million case against a Texas individual and a $16 million case involving Donald Basile and two companies. The SEC has increased its focus on crypto fraud while signaling a shift in its overall regulatory approach.

Polymarket Records $3.3 Billion World Cup Trading Volume Amid Longshot Positions and CFTC Investigation

117d ago · Source: cryptoslate

Polymarket recorded more than $3.3 billion in trading volume for World Cup‑linked contracts, exceeding the roughly $1.4 billion generated during the Super Bowl this year, according to data from the platform. The surge reflects the platform’s expanding role in event‑based prediction markets and the sport’s global reach.

The World Cup entered the Round of 32 as the tournament progressed toward its July 19 final. France and Argentina remain the market favorites, with implied win probabilities of 23 % and 21 % respectively on Polymarket, while Spain sits at 11 % and England at 10 %, and Brazil at 6 %. In the contract for teams to reach the final, France is assigned a 39 % chance and Argentina 38 %, with Spain at 23 %.

About $1.6 billion has been traded on outcomes with implied probabilities of 1 % or lower, representing roughly two‑thirds of the winner‑market volume. Long‑shot contracts such as Ivory Coast ($101 million), Mexico ($97 million), Egypt ($90 million), Cape Verde ($87 million) and Morocco ($82 million) account for a substantial share of that activity. Traders may have entered these positions early, used them for speculation, hedging, parlays or other strategies, and may not have closed them as odds shifted.

Unlike traditional sportsbooks that reset odds, prediction‑market contracts continue trading until settlement or until participants exit their positions, meaning capital can remain attached to long‑shot teams even after market sentiment changes.

The heightened activity is driving broader institutional interest. Investment firm Bernstein estimates total World Cup wagers could surpass $10 billion before the tournament concludes, while venture‑capital firm Andreessen Horowitz reported that non‑sporting prediction‑market volume reached $3.6 billion across Kalshi and Polymarket, surpassing the combined total of all prediction markets a year earlier. Weekly non‑sporting volume rose to about $200 million in July 2025, an 18‑fold increase from the prior 12 months, and overall weekly trading across the sector hit a record $14.5 billion with open interest at $1.6 billion for a third consecutive week.

Regulatory scrutiny is also intensifying. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission opened an investigation into Polymarket, a development first reported by The Wall Street Journal. Polymarket resumed limited U.S. operations in 2023 after a 2022 enforcement action that barred it from serving U.S. customers. The probe arrives as the platform reports record volumes, raising questions about consumer protection, the distinction between regulated event contracts and gambling, and the appropriate level of oversight for prediction markets.

Strategy Announces $2 Billion Share Repurchase Plan, Bitcoin Monetization Program and New Capital Framework

117d ago · Source: coindesk

Strategy announced a new Digital Credit Capital Framework on June 29, 2026, including a board‑approved U.S. dollar reserve policy, a 12% annual dividend rate on its Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock (STRC), and authorized up to $1 billion in repurchases of Digital Credit Securities and $1 billion in common‑stock buybacks. The company also approved a Bitcoin Monetization Program that permits the sale of bitcoin when deemed advantageous, with proceeds earmarked for reserve building, dividend and interest payments, or share repurchases. The firm, which holds bitcoin as its primary treasury reserve asset, reported a USD reserve of about $2.55 billion, enough to cover roughly 17.4 months of preferred dividend and interest obligations. Executive Chairman Michael Saylor said the framework aims to strengthen the company’s credit profile while maintaining bitcoin as its core treasury holding. CEO Phong Le described the changes as a shift from issuing capital to actively managing the capital structure, subject to market conditions. MSTR shares rose approximately 6% in pre‑market trading, and STRC increased about 9% after the announcement. Bitcoin was trading above $60,000, modestly higher following the news. The repurchase and dividend programs have no fixed expiration and may be modified, suspended or terminated at any time, with execution dependent on market evaluations. The Bitcoin Monetization Program does not obligate the company to sell any bitcoin, and the capital actions remain under review as management assesses their accretive impact.

KuCoin Faces Scrutiny over Alleged Legal Threat in Stolen Funds Case

117d ago · Source: cryptonews

ZachXBT, a blockchain investigator, said KuCoin sent a legal warning to a victim whose stolen funds were routed through KuCoin‑linked accounts in a case involving a $250,000 Atomic stealer theft. The theft occurred on August 18, 2025, and involved five alleged KuCoin deposit addresses. ZachXBT said the accounts had purchased mule KYC, meaning they were verified with another person’s identity.

KuCoin has not confirmed the allegation and no court filing or official statement has been released. In March 2024, U.S. prosecutors charged KuCoin and two founders, alleging failure to maintain adequate anti‑money‑laundering and know‑your‑customer controls. In January 2025, KuCoin pleaded guilty to operating an unlicensed money‑transmitting business and agreed to pay more than $297 million in penalties.

The exchange obtained a MiCA licence in Austria in late 2025, which allowed it to offer regulated services across the European Economic Area, but the Austrian regulator later barred its European arm from taking on new customers, citing staffing shortages.

Earlier this year, a counterfeit Ledger Live app stole at least $9.5 million from more than 50 victims, with funds routed through over 150 KuCoin deposit addresses into a centralized mixing service; ZachXBT traced some of those funds to addresses linked to AudiA6.

Whether law enforcement will pursue the matter or if the alleged legal threat will result in formal proceedings remains unresolved.

Sovereign Wealth Funds Accumulate Spot Bitcoin as Price Seen as Entry Point

117d ago · Source: cointelegraph

MidChains CEO Basil Al Askari said sovereign wealth funds have been accumulating spot Bitcoin, viewing the current price as an entry point for large investors. He noted a slowdown in retail crypto participation but an increase in institutional activity. Al Askari told the Chain Reaction podcast that at least one, and possibly two, sovereign wealth funds are buying Bitcoin in the coming weeks. State-owned investment funds, which collectively hold more than $13 trillion globally, are seen as a sign of state-level conviction rather than private speculation. The funds' long-term patience aligns with the view that the current price offers a strategic entry for mega funds. Al Askari said the impact on price will not be immediate, but the activity sends a clear signal to other institutions that may be waiting on the sidelines. He added that over time, larger holders with long horizons could make Bitcoin increasingly scarce. Other recent institutional moves include Mubadala Investment Company's $437 million purchase of Bitcoin through BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust in February 2025 and Strategy's acquisition of 3,657 BTC this month. Coinbase's head of institutional strategy, John D’Agostino, said family offices and sovereign funds in the UAE are taking advantage of the discount. At the same time, spot Bitcoin ETF outflows have exceeded $4.1 billion so far this month. The situation reflects mixed trends, with institutional accumulation offset by ETF outflows and ongoing sales by some sovereign holders such as Bhutan's Druk Holding. A forward-looking view suggests that prolonged accumulation by long-term investors may reduce available supply and influence future price dynamics.

XRP Holds above $1 Support, Gains Slightly as Network Activity Rises and ETF Inflows Continue

117d ago · Source: coindesk

XRP rose 1.59% on June 30, 2026, ending near $1.0544 after holding above the $1.00 support level.

The token’s daily active addresses rose 72% in two weeks, and spot ETFs recorded the eighth consecutive week of inflows.

Network activity increased as daily active addresses climbed from 23,000 on June 14 to nearly 39,500 by June 27.

Open interest across major exchanges fell below 150 million from a peak of 1.3 billion, reducing leveraged positions.

XRP spot ETFs added $15.6 million in net inflows on June 26, while Bitcoin ETFs recorded $444.5 million outflows and ether funds lost $12.9 million.

The price has defended the $1.00 level despite a 19% decline over the past month.

Open interest has dropped sharply, funding has turned negative and long liquidations have cleared crowded leveraged positions.

Active addresses continue to rise, ETF inflows remain steady, and exchange reserves stay stable, though the price stays below major moving averages.

Technical indicators show the 4‑hour relative strength index at 46, below the neutral 50 level, and resistance remains near $1.10.

A break above $1.20 would signal a shift from support defense to recovery, while a drop below $1.00 could bring $0.90 and $0.87 into focus.

Until XRP moves above $1.10 or falls below $1.00, the market remains range‑bound.

Traders will monitor whether rising usage and cleaner positioning can push the price back above $1.10.

EU’s MiCA Regulation Takes Effect, Crypto Week Ahead Features Product Launches and U.S. Jobs Data

117d ago · Source: coindesk

The EU’s Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) framework becomes fully enforceable on July 1 as its transitional period ends, while crypto participants prepare for a series of product launches and U.S. macroeconomic releases in early July. The EU introduced MiCA to create a unified regulatory regime for crypto assets across member states. Exchanges have sought to attract users after Binance failed to secure a license, according to the source. Robinhood plans to unveil new crypto products on July 1, with CEO Vlad Tenev speaking alongside its crypto general manager Johann Kerbrat. Tokenization firm Securitize is scheduled to list on the NYSE on July 2 following a SPAC merger. Simultaneously, U.S. economic data, including the nonfarm payrolls and unemployment rate, will be released on July 2. On the regulatory side, Aave DAO’s voting on a Pendle PT risk oracle upgrade ends June 30, while Arbitrum’s DAO will vote on limiting its gaming venture activities through July 2. GHST token holders will decide on IP transfer from Pixelcraft Studios to AavegotchiDAO Foundation through July 4, and Redbelly Network will consider suspending its community DAO until ecosystem maturity is achieved, also through July 4. EigenCloud will unlock 2.91% of its circulating supply valued at $8.44 million, and M$0.6365 will unlock 0.56% of its circulating supply valued at $36.25 million. The Global Blockchain Show 2026 takes place in Riyadh from June 29 to 30, and the Stablecoins Unblocked conference will be held in London on July 1. Macro events scheduled for the week include the House Price Index YoY for April, JOLTS job openings for May, Eurozone inflation for June, ADP employment change, Fed Chair Warsh’s speech at the ECB forum, ISM manufacturing PMI for June, nonfarm payrolls and unemployment rate for June, initial jobless claims, and the Federal Reserve balance sheet for July 1. No corporate earnings are scheduled. Unforeseen geopolitical events may also influence market direction. Analysts note that the expiration of MiCA’s transition period could increase competition among exchanges to capture users previously associated with Binance, while new product announcements from Robinhood and the upcoming U.S. employment data may drive short‑term price movements in digital assets.

Illinois Imposes 0.2% Tax on Cryptocurrency Transactions

117d ago · Source: cryptoslate

Illinois enacted a 0.2% tax on cryptocurrency transactions effective January 1 2027, becoming the first state to levy digital asset trades. Governor JB Pritzker signed the Digital Asset Tax Act in mid‑June as part of a $55.9 billion budget. The federal GENIUS Act, enacted in 2025, designates Treasury the OCC and banking regulators as overseers of stablecoin issuance and reserves, and permits states to regulate smaller issuers only if their rules are substantially similar to the federal framework. Issuers with more than $10 billion in outstanding stablecoins must transition to federal oversight or cease new issuance. The CLARITY Act, which passed the Senate Banking Committee 15‑9 in May, defines when tokens are securities versus commodities and sets registration requirements for exchanges and brokers. Its preemption language would bar states from treating digital commodities as securities, though state securities administrators warn it limits their ability to pursue fraud and enforce consumer protection. Illinois' tax applies to exchanges, custodians and brokers that handle crypto for residents and to out‑of‑state brokers earning over $100,000 annually from Illinois customers, who must register and collect the levy. Direct wallet‑to‑wallet transfers between individuals are exempt, and the tax is assessed on the gross value of each transaction regardless of profit or loss. Industry groups estimate the levy will generate about $60 million per year, and the Crypto Council for Innovation has called it the most punitive digital‑asset tax in the United States. Analysts say state‑level taxes could undermine the uniformity promised by the federal rulebook, creating a patchwork of costs that may affect market liquidity and lead firms to avoid Illinois. Congress would need to pass separate legislation or amend existing acts to prohibit state taxes on digital‑asset transactions, a step not included in the current GENIUS or CLARITY drafts.

117d ago · Source: cryptonews · 1 min read

ARK Invest disclosed on Monday that it bought roughly $16.9 million of shares in Coinbase, Circle, Bullish and Robinhood, extending its exposure to crypto‑linked equities as those stocks posted gains. Coinbase closed up 1.74% to $151.65, Circle rose 3.25% to $75.96, Bullish gained 1.72% to $23.69 and Robinhood increased 3.18% to $101.83. The purchases were executed across ARK Innovation ETF, ARK Next Generation Internet ETF and ARK Blockchain & Fintech Innovation ETF, which together hold the positions. ARK typically rebalances its ETFs to keep any single holding below 10% of a fund’s assets, according to The Block. Earlier, ARK had acquired about $25.5 million of the same group of stocks last Friday after the shares had declined the previous day. Circle announced an expanded relationship with BNY, which will list USDC on its Digital Asset Custody platform, allowing institutions to store, transfer, mint and burn the stablecoin. BNY chief product and innovation officer Carolyn Weinberg said the move reflects growing integration of digital assets into traditional finance, while Circle chief commercial officer Kash Razzaghi said the partnership underscores the regulatory rigor Circle has built into USDC from day one. Coinbase also launched tokenized shares of SpaceX, Nvidia, Google, Strategy and Bitmine, offering 1:1‑backed on‑chain equity that pays dividends. CEO Brian Armstrong said the products are 1:1‑backed tokenized stocks that investors can own on chain, as reported by crypto.news. The transactions illustrate ARK’s ongoing accumulation of crypto‑related equities amid mixed market movements, while the broader regulatory environment, including the EU’s MiCA framework, continues to shape the sector.

UK Crypto Firms Must Obtain FCA Authorization by 2027

117d ago · Source: cryptonews

The UK Financial Conduct Authority said crypto firms must obtain FCA authorization by February 28, 2027 to conduct regulated crypto activities in the United Kingdom. The final rulebook will take effect on October 25, 2027. Until then, firms have a licensing window from September 30, 2026 to February 28, 2027 to submit applications. The FCA noted that current anti‑money‑laundering registrations will not carry over and must be replaced with new applications under the Financial Services and Markets Act framework. Stablecoin issuers will face reserve and redemption standards and a capital requirement of 1% of issued value, down from an earlier 2% proposal. The regulator said the lower threshold reflects industry feedback. The rules cover crypto trading platforms, custodians, stablecoin issuers, staking services and other intermediaries. Firms that apply late or submit weak applications may experience delays. The framework adds market conduct requirements such as disclosure, market abuse prevention, custody standards, prudential capital buffers and consumer duty obligations. It also requires annual stress tests for firms holding risky assets. The FCA plans to distinguish truly decentralized services from platforms with identifiable operators, with the latter likely to fall under supervision. The clear timeline gives firms a defined path to compliance, though the broader effects of the regime remain to be observed.

Bitcoin Lending Surges to $67 Billion as Banks Adopt Institutional Standards

117d ago · Source: coindesk

Bitcoin lending has entered a new institutional phase, with banks increasing overcollateralized, transparent lending after the 2022 collapses of major crypto lenders, bringing total crypto‑backed loans to $67 billion.

The 2022‑2023 crypto credit crisis saw the failures of Celsius, BlockFi and Genesis due to leverage and asset rehypothecation, prompting a shift toward conservative underwriting practices.

Institutional momentum is building as banks expand bitcoin‑backed credit facilities; total crypto‑backed lending rose 49% year‑over‑year to $67 billion, according to a Silicon Valley Bank report. Ledn completed the first investment‑grade‑rated BTC‑backed asset‑backed security, and lending rates range from 7.5% to 16% APR, higher than traditional financing but potentially narrowing with greater bank participation.

Early examples include Strike’s 7.5% rate on term loans over $5 million, backed by a $2.1 billion Tether credit facility. The Lightning Network is cited as a catalyst that could enable near‑instant, low‑cost collateral movements, improving efficiency and scalability within established financial markets.

Growth will depend on expanding institutional capital access and borrower demand; the market could scale toward $1 trillion over the next decade if trends continue.

Bitcoin Falls Below $60,000 as Traders Increase Downside Hedges and Exchange Flows Rise

117d ago · Source: cryptoslate

Bitcoin slipped below $60,000, prompting traders to increase downside hedges and raising concerns about market volatility. The price had been consolidating near $60,000 since February, making the level a focal point for market participants. Recent declines have seen more than 550,000 BTC transferred to exchange deposit addresses at Binance and OKX, exceeding typical monthly inflows. CryptoQuant data indicate that Binance received over 220,000 BTC and OKX over 330,000 BTC, the largest flows of the year and comparable to levels seen during the 2023 bear market. The movement of coins to exchanges suggests potential selling pressure if price continues to fall. On‑chain metrics show that Bitcoin’s MVRV Z‑Score has dropped, indicating that market value is approaching historical low‑valuation levels. While valuation risk has eased, the indicator does not pinpoint a price floor. Funding rates have turned positive across major exchanges while open interest rises despite weak spot prices, implying that traders are building positions that could amplify price swings. Institutional demand has weakened, with spot Bitcoin ETFs shedding about 71,600 BTC and trusts adding only 7,500 BTC, resulting in a net outflow of roughly 77,000 BTC over the past month. Traders have increased demand for downside protection, with implied volatility rising and open interest concentrated in July put options at strike prices of $55,000 and $50,000, totaling about $1.2 billion on Deribit. This defensive positioning reflects heightened structural uncertainty. The combination of exchange inflows, rising options exposure, and reduced institutional participation creates a fragile market environment. The next move will depend on whether spot demand can absorb the additional supply or if further declines trigger additional hedging activity.

Bitcoin Falls Under $60,000 as Yen Hits 40‑Year Low

117d ago · Source: coindesk

Bitcoin fell under $60,000 on June 30, 2026, as the Japanese yen slid to its lowest level against the dollar since 1986. The price drop placed Bitcoin under its 200‑week moving average. The yen’s decline, driven by divergent U.S. and Japanese interest rates, raised concerns about unwinding of yen‑funded carry trades that can affect equities, bonds and crypto assets. Strategy, the largest publicly listed holder of bitcoin, announced a plan to sell more than $1 billion of bitcoin as part of a $1.25 billion monetization program, deviating from founder Michael Saylor’s previous public stance that the company would not sell its holdings. The company also authorized share buybacks of up to $1 billion each for its preferred and Class A common shares. Analysts noted that the shift in strategy reflects pressure on the company’s capital structure, as its preferred stock has fallen in value, reducing its ability to fund bitcoin purchases. Jeff Dorman, chief investment officer of Arca, said the company was “kicking the can down the road,” and warned that further unforced errors could emerge. The Japanese yen fell to 162.40 per U.S. dollar, the weakest level since October 1986, prompting the Dollar Index to rise to 101.32. The yen’s decline reflects a roughly 57 % drop against the dollar since 2021, as the U.S. Federal Reserve raised rates above 5 % while the Bank of Japan kept policy near zero and only recently moved to about 1 %. The market reaction remains uncertain as the yen’s weakness and corporate selling continue to influence bitcoin’s price trajectory.

Trump Has 10 Days to Decide on Housing Bill Containing CBDC Ban

117d ago · Source: cointelegraph

President Donald Trump has about 10 days to decide whether to sign the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, legislation that prohibits the Federal Reserve from creating a central bank digital currency until the end of 2030. The House Speaker Mike Johnson delivered the bill to the president’s desk on Monday, starting the 10‑day period required by the Constitution. The House passed the housing measure last week with bipartisan support. Senator Elizabeth Warren sponsored the bill, which also mandates in‑person proof of U.S. citizenship for voter registration. The Senate is scheduled to reconvene on July 13 after a state work period. Trump said the bill was a yawn and said Republicans in Congress should focus on passing the SAVE America Act before addressing the housing legislation. He canceled a planned signing ceremony on Wednesday. Warren said, “We should be celebrating a bipartisan housing law,” and urged the president to sign the bill. Congress may override a presidential veto with a two‑thirds majority in both chambers, and lawmakers have until July 13 to act on related digital asset legislation.

AI Spending Could Impact Bitcoin Traders Amid Trillion-Dollar Investment Boom

117d ago · Source: cryptoslate

Bank for International Settlements (BIS) warned that the five largest hyperscalers may spend more than $1 trillion on AI‑related capital expenditures in 2025 and 2026. The BIS said the rapid pace of investment raises questions about the timing of returns and the sustainability of financing. In its annual economic report, the BIS noted that intense competition could lead to overinvestment, especially given supply constraints for semiconductors, electricity and other inputs. A disappointment in AI returns could trigger tighter liquidity, causing a pullback in financing and a broader slowdown in credit conditions. Equity markets tied to the AI buildout could fall first, followed by widening credit spreads and pressure on private credit and bank lending. Bitcoin, which is often treated as a risk asset, could be affected when investors de‑risk portfolios, as seen when Bitcoin dropped after a sharp decline in the KOSPI index. Analysts such as Arthur Hayes of BitMEX have suggested that a later easing of monetary policy might benefit Bitcoin, though the timing remains uncertain. The BIS highlighted that the current AI investment boom mirrors previous excesses in canals, railways, electrification and the internet, underscoring potential downside risks for the wider financial system.

Germany and France Account for Over One-Third of EU MiCA Licenses

117d ago · Source: cryptonews

Germany and France hold more than one-third of the 244 MiCA crypto‑asset service provider licences issued by the EU as of June 29, with 57 and 26 licences respectively, according to ESMA data. The EU's Markets in Crypto‑Assets (MiCA) regulation requires firms to obtain a national licence to operate crypto services for EU users. The ESMA interim register, updated weekly, tracks licences and non‑compliant entities; national regulators supply the data and licences may be added after the initial reporting period. Greece, Hungary, Poland, Portugal and Romania had not issued any MiCA licences by the June 29 cut‑off. Poland lacks a full national licensing framework, and its president has rejected the proposed legislation three times, according to a Bits.Media report. The transition period for unlicensed firms ends on July 1, 2026, after which they must wind down activities in an orderly manner and protect clients. The concentration of licences in Germany and France is likely to limit the range of assets and liquidity available on unlicensed platforms, as firms remove products or restrict access. Coinbase and OKX have signaled intent to attract European users before the deadline, while Binance has informed users that its services will remain available while it pursues alternative authorisation routes. Binance previously attempted a Greek licence application that did not advance before the cutoff. The upcoming enforcement of MiCA on July 1 will shape where crypto activity moves across the EU, with licensed entities gaining legal certainty and unlicensed firms facing reduced market access.

Strategy Introduces Bitcoin Monetization Framework with $2.55B Cash Reserve

117d ago · Source: cointelegraph

Strategy announced on Monday via an SEC filing that it has adopted a Digital Credit Capital Framework, which includes a Bitcoin monetization program, a dividend increase to 12% annually, and authorization of share buybacks while maintaining its long‑term Bitcoin strategy. The company reported a cash reserve of $2.55 billion, sufficient to cover about 17 months of preferred stock dividends and interest payments, and said the reserve must be kept at a minimum of 12 months unless the board approves otherwise. The filing indicates the firm may sell up to $1.25 billion worth of Bitcoin to fund dividend payments, debt costs, and stock repurchases. It added that it did not acquire any Bitcoin during the week ended Sunday, leaving its holdings unchanged at 847,363 BTC, valued at roughly $64.1 billion. Strategy also raised about $1.15 billion by selling 12.67 million shares of its common stock. Executive chairman Michael Saylor said the cash reserve combined with the monetization capacity provides up to $3.8 billion in dividend coverage, or nearly 26 months. The dividend rate was raised from 11.5% to 12%, and separate buyback programs were approved for preferred securities and its Class A common stock. The company’s MSTR shares have fallen about 50% year‑to‑date, and the preferred stock price dropped to $71.25, a 28.75% discount to par. The framework does not include additional Bitcoin purchases, and the board said it will remain disciplined in issuing new shares when the stock trades near one times its net asset value.

Cryptocurrencies Decline as Yen Weakens, Strategy Considers Bitcoin Sales

117d ago · Source: coindesk

Cryptocurrencies fell Tuesday as the Japanese yen slipped past 162 per dollar, its weakest level since 1986, strengthening the dollar and weighing on dollar‑priced digital assets. Bitcoin traded around $59,514, down 0.3% in 24 hours and 7% for the week, staying below its 200‑week moving average. Ether dropped 8.2% to about $1,587, while dogecoin fell 11.9% to $0.072 and XRP slipped 7.1% to $1.04; BNB fell 6.5%. Solana rose 3% to $74 and Hyperliquid’s HYPE gained 7% on the day, leaving the weekly change roughly flat. Onchain metrics showed muted demand: active addresses hovered near 618,000 and total value transferred remained near $4.2 billion, while transaction fees continued to contract. Strategy, the largest corporate holder of bitcoin, announced it might sell more than $1 billion of bitcoin under a new financing program, reversing founder Michael Saylor’s previous stance against sales. The prospect of those sales has heightened market caution, according to analysts. The next factors to watch are whether the dollar’s advance slows and whether yen depreciation prompts Japanese authorities to intervene, which could affect funding flows for risk assets.

Bitcoin Price Steadies Near $60,000 as analysts warn further downside

117d ago · Source: coindesk

Bitcoin price steadied near $60,000 on June 29, 2026, rising 0.6% to $59,800 after a two‑week decline, while analysts indicated that additional downside could follow. The cryptocurrency fell below $60,000 earlier in the month, erasing more than half of its value from an October record high. Volatility indexes showed a brief pause as the 30‑day implied volatility (BVIV) slipped to 47%, ending a two‑week increase. Derivatives data showed that over $200 million in futures positions were liquidated in the previous 24 hours, with long positions accounting for most of the total. In the subsequent four hours, $13 million in short contracts were closed, suggesting that traders were reacting to a brief bounce toward $60,000. Open interest for Bitcoin futures returned to early‑month levels, declining from a peak of 775,000 BTC on Friday. Ether open interest remained steady at roughly 14.2 million ETH. Solana’s open interest stood at 72.7 million SOL, just below the record of 76 million set on June 24, while its price gained more than 13 % since Thursday. Other altcoins showed limited movement, with the CoinMarketCap Altcoin Season index holding at 49/100. Privacy coins Dash and Zcash rose about 2 % after declines of 18‑30 % in the prior two weeks. The $60,000 put option on Deribit had nearly $1 billion of notional open interest, compared with about $1.11 billion for the $80,000 call, and the next sizable cluster is near $50,000 with $712 million of open interest. The market remains uncertain as traders await Bitcoin’s next directional move, which will influence the outlook for altcoins and derivative positions in the coming weeks.

Galaxy Digital Lowers Estimate of CLARITY Act Passage to 50%

117d ago · Source: cryptonews

Galaxy Digital has revised its forecast, assigning a 50% probability that the CLARITY Act will be enacted in 2026, according to the firm’s internal analysis. The legislation, introduced to create a framework for digital‑asset market structure, must pass the Senate with at least 60 votes; Republicans control 53 seats, meaning Democratic support would be required. Senator Tim Scott has urged a July vote, saying the bill would provide clearer rules and protect consumers, while Senate Majority Leader John Thune indicated the National Defense Authorization Act would take priority when the Senate reconvenes on July 13. Negotiators from the Senate Banking and Agriculture Committees continue to discuss ethics requirements, anti‑money‑laundering measures and the regulatory framework for digital assets, according to reports by Eleanor Terrett and other congressional staff. Procedural hurdles remain; even if an agreement is reached before the July 13 return, the Senate calendar could delay consideration until late July or early August, potentially missing the window before the August recess. Republican backing is not unanimous; Senators Josh Hawley and Rand Paul opposed an earlier GENIUS Act, underscoring the need for bipartisan agreement. Market participants have responded cautiously, with Galaxy Digital’s lowered odds reflecting heightened political and procedural uncertainty. Negotiations are expected to intensify over the next two weeks, and their outcome will determine whether the CLARITY Act reaches the Senate floor this summer. Whether a compromise emerges before the summer break will shape the regulatory landscape for digital assets in the United States.

Aave Token Rises 13.16% to $94.32 as Investors Assess Bank‑Style Valuation

117d ago · Source: cryptoslate

Aave’s AAVE token rose 13.16% to $94.32 on June 27, the largest 24‑hour increase in its recent trading history. Standard Chartered analysts described Aave’s lending model using automated‑bank terminology, while reports indicated that Payward, the parent of Kraken, was exploring a potential stake in an Aave‑related entity. Stani Kulechov, founder of Aave Labs, said that revenue from the Aave protocol, the GHO stablecoin, and product fees flows to AAVE rather than to Aave Labs, raising questions about how that revenue reaches the DAO after partner shares, incentives and governance decisions. Aave operates as a decentralized autonomous organization that can capture net protocol revenue, allocate capital and access institutional markets while keeping core economics separate from a conventional corporate balance sheet. Traditional lenders are valued using liquidity, borrower demand, fee capture, risk management and capital return; Aave mirrors those inputs through supplied liquidity, smart‑contract markets, governance and tokenholder‑aligned buyback discussions, though structural differences remain. Suppliers to Aave are users of smart‑contract markets rather than bank depositors, and gross protocol activity does not equal the net revenue retained by the DAO; buybacks can clarify tokenholder economics but execution depends on public governance rather than corporate management. Aave’s Horizon product, an institutional real‑world asset offering, attracted more than $450 million in net deposits and $135 million in borrowing, illustrating the protocol’s appeal to regulated capital. Regulatory clarity from 2025 SEC actions and the reintroduction of DeFi fee switches have further shaped market expectations for Aave’s revenue pathways. Whether Aave can sustain a bank‑style valuation while preserving DAO‑controlled revenue and governance remains an open question.

UK Announces Final Crypto Rules with 2027 FCA Authorization Deadline

117d ago · Source: cointelegraph

The UK Financial Conduct Authority released its final crypto regulatory framework on Tuesday, establishing a licensing period from September 2026 to February 28, 2027 and setting an effective date of October 25, 2027. The regulator completed its consultation on June 3 and issued a press release detailing the final rules, which bring digital assets under its oversight and require firms to meet standards comparable to other financial service providers. The licensing window will be open from September 2026 until February 28, 2027, after which the regime will take effect on October 25, 2027. Crypto firms, including trading platforms, custodians, stablecoin issuers, staking companies and other intermediaries, must obtain FCA authorization to operate in the UK. Firms that already hold licenses under money‑laundering regulations must apply for new FCA authorization and are not automatically converted. The FCA said transitional savings provisions will allow certain firms to continue specified activities while seeking authorization. Pre‑application support meetings will be available starting next month. Policy statements will be published on July 17 during a webinar and a further statement is planned for September to clarify the regulatory perimeter. Stablecoin rules were simplified, removing the requirement for estimated redemption forecasts, mandating statutory trusts over reserves, and eliminating unallocated backing fund accounts. Issuers must provide specific withdrawal rights, may retain a 5% excess in the backing asset pool, and can use limited intragroup custody subject to safeguards. The FCA noted a baseline regime for stablecoin issuance and said it will consult the Bank of England later this year on how systemic stablecoin issuers will be treated. The regulator also plans to consult on guidance for decentralized finance, operational resilience for distributed ledger technology firms, and updates to the financial crime guide relevant to crypto asset firms. Matthew Long, director of payments and digital assets at the FCA, said the regulator will apply the rules on a case‑by‑case basis, noting that DeFi activities without identifiable participants will be excluded from the scope. The regulator said it will continue to assess the regulatory perimeter for crypto activities and monitor the implementation of the framework.

JPMorgan Calls for Strong Safeguards in U.S. Crypto Market Structure Bill

117d ago · Source: coindesk

JPMorgan urged Congress on June 29 to adopt a regulatory framework for digital assets that fills existing gaps, warning that without appropriate safeguards the market could pose risks to consumers and financial stability. The Senate is considering the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, which cleared the Senate Banking Committee and faces unresolved issues before the August recess. In a blog post authored by Umar Farooq, global co‑head of JP Morgan Payments, and Peter Muriungi, CEO of Digital Assets and Blockchain Solutions, the bank said crypto assets that function like securities or operate as exchanges should be subject to the same investor‑protection, disclosure and market‑integrity standards as traditional finance. The bank called for robust rules on stablecoins and tokenized deposits, including capital, liquidity and consumer‑protection requirements, and for preserving anti‑money‑laundering and law‑enforcement tools. Executives noted that tokenization could speed payments and cross‑border transfers, but said those benefits depend on regulatory clarity and strong protections. JPMorgan also warned that offering rewards or cashback on stablecoin balances could mislead consumers and trigger rapid withdrawals during market stress, and that exemptions for parts of the crypto ecosystem could create blind spots for illicit finance. The legislation aims to advance before the August recess, but its passage this year remains uncertain as negotiators continue to address disputes over ethics rules, decentralized‑finance liability protections and stablecoin yield provisions.

Ark Invest Purchases $43.5 Million in Crypto-Related Stocks

117d ago · Source: cointelegraph

ARK Invest, the technology‑focused asset manager led by Cathie Wood, bought approximately $43.5 million of crypto‑related stocks over three trading days, adding to its exchange‑traded funds as the market for those securities declined and Bitcoin slipped near $58,000. The purchases occurred as investor sentiment turned bearish on crypto‑linked equities, with Coinbase, Circle, Bullish, Robinhood and other firms seeing their share prices drop 16% to 27% over the past month. ARK added 122,544 Coinbase shares valued at about $18.6 million and 169,777 Circle shares valued at roughly $12.9 million, alongside $5.2 million of Bullish, $5.12 million of Robinhood, and $1.69 million of SoFi Technologies. Most of the new holdings were incorporated into the ARK Innovation ETF (ARKK) and the ARK Next Generation Internet ETF (ARKW), with additional allocations to the ARK Blockchain & Fintech Innovation ETF (ARKF). The firm also reduced positions in Alibaba, Roku, Strata Critical Medical and several other companies. The moves reflect ARK’s strategy to capitalize on price declines, while the broader crypto sector remains volatile amid regulatory uncertainty and continued pressure on Bitcoin’s price.

USDT Trades at 8.5% Premium over Dollar on Indian Platforms

117d ago · Source: coindesk

USDT traded at more than an 8.5% premium over its dollar value on Indian cryptocurrency platforms after the Enforcement Directorate announced a crackdown on crypto payment firms on June 17. The premium, which typically ranges between 3% and 4%, reflects the extra amount Indian buyers pay for the stablecoin because local demand exceeds supply. USDT had been trading around 102.88 rupees against an official dollar‑rupee rate of about 94.65. The Enforcement Directorate searched six premises in Bengaluru on June 17 under the Foreign Exchange Management Act. It said five crypto payment firms allegedly moved more than $265 million in cross‑border transfers using USDT. The agency described the activity as an informal remittance channel that allowed non‑resident Indians to deposit rupees, convert them to USDT, send the tokens abroad and sell them on Indian exchanges. The channel had been operating for about two years and attracted users because transfers were faster and cheaper than bank routes. The existing premium increased the rupee conversion on receipt. Following the announcement, market makers and liquidity providers reduced purchases of USDT from overseas sources. This tightened domestic supply and widened the premium. Coinbase launched direct rupee rails in India last month to provide a regulated off‑ramp. The crackdown targeted the infrastructure that underpins the price gap. The premium’s persistence will depend on whether liquidity providers resume overseas sourcing and how the regulatory environment evolves in India.

Strategy Authorizes Bitcoin Sales under New Capital Framework

117d ago · Source: coindesk

Strategy authorized a new bitcoin monetization program that permits the sale of its bitcoin holdings for specific financial purposes. The program allows up to $1.25 billion of bitcoin sales to build a USD reserve for preferred stock dividends and interest, and to replenish the reserve after distributions. It also authorizes up to $1 billion for repurchases of digital credit securities and up to $1 billion for common stock buybacks. No overall cap on total bitcoin sales is set; any additional sales require board approval. The filing states the company is not obligated to sell any bitcoin, but the board has approved the framework to use bitcoin sales when more advantageous than issuing equity or other financing. The plan is part of a broader capital allocation strategy that raises the preferred stock dividend to 12%, establishes a USD reserve policy, and requires cash reserves to cover at least 12 months of dividend and interest payments. Michael Saylor, founder and executive chairman, said the framework is intended to strengthen credit quality, provide liquidity, and enable the company to reduce preferred stock dividend payments when accretive while maintaining long‑term bitcoin exposure. Strategy’s shares rose about 3% after the announcement. Bitcoin was trading below $60,000 at the time.

Clarity Act Passage Odds Drop to 50% After Trump Demands New Demands

117d ago · Source: cryptoslate

The likelihood that the Clarity Act will become law this year fell to about 50% according to Galaxy Digital and to 44% on the Polymarket prediction platform. The bill, which would establish federal rules for the crypto industry, is running out of time as the Senate calendar tightens before the August recess. Lawmakers need to schedule a floor debate by the first week of July to allow a final vote before the break. President Donald Trump has added pressure by demanding that a bipartisan housing bill be passed together with the SAVE Act, a voting measure that faces a Senate filibuster. This political standoff reduces the available floor time for the crypto legislation, which must reconcile text between the Senate Banking and Agriculture committees, undergo a floor debate, and receive House approval. Galaxy Digital said the downgrade reflects scheduling constraints, not a collapse in substantive negotiations. Democratic senators have called for tougher ethics rules, conflict‑of‑interest provisions, and stricter anti‑money‑laundering standards, arguing the current bill would weaken illicit finance safeguards. Senator Elizabeth Warren said the act as written would make it easier for adversaries to move billions through crypto. Amendments to tighten conflict‑of‑interest rules and enforceable ethics standards have failed or are pending in committee. Republican support may erode, leaving passage dependent on a durable Democratic coalition. Industry groups, including Ripple, have launched a mobile advertising campaign promoting the bill as a way to protect consumers and keep the United States competitive with Europe, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates. Market analysts note that Bitcoin fell below $60,000, extending a decline of more than 50% from its October peak, and that regulatory uncertainty could influence whether the current downturn stabilizes or deepens. If the Clarity Act does not pass this year, the crypto sector may face continued regulatory uncertainty and market pressure, while supporters warn the window for action may close as the midterm campaign dominates Washington.

Trump Has 10-Day Deadline on Housing Bill Containing CBDC Ban

117d ago · Source: cryptonews

House Speaker Mike Johnson delivered the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act to the White House on Monday. The legislation bars the Federal Reserve from creating a central bank digital currency or any asset substantially similar to one through 2030. The bill passed the Senate 85‑5 and the House 358‑32, indicating bipartisan support. President Donald Trump has a ten‑day window, excluding Sundays, to sign or reject the measure; if Congress remains in session, the bill becomes law without his signature. Trump said he has not decided to sign the bill and described it as “a big yawn,” urging Republicans to focus on the SAVE America Act, which would require proof of U.S. citizenship for voter registration. Senator Bill Cassidy called the delay “irresponsible” and urged quick action on housing affordability. The Senate calendar also includes the CLARITY Act, a crypto regulatory bill that cleared the House and the Senate Banking Committee and is pending floor action before the August recess. The CLARITY Act contains language that would prevent the Fed from issuing a retail digital dollar without congressional approval. The housing measure seeks to expand housing supply, promote manufactured housing, speed review processes, and limit large investors from buying single‑family homes.

Germany Leads MiCA Crypto Licensing with 57 Approvals, France Follows

117d ago · Source: cointelegraph

Germany has obtained 57 MiCA‑authorized crypto‑asset service provider licences, representing about 23 % of the 244 licences issued under the EU’s Markets in Crypto‑Assets Regulation, while France follows with 26 licences, or 11 % of the total. The European Securities and Markets Authority’s interim register, compiled on Friday, shows that licensing activity accelerated in late June, with France issuing five approvals between June 18 and June 22. The MiCA framework, which takes effect on July 1, is intended to create a single European crypto market, but national regulators continue to apply the rules unevenly. BaFin said the high number of German authorisations reflects the size of the country’s financial sector and a pre‑existing national licensing regime that allows simplified pathways. A BaFin spokesperson noted that it is difficult to predict whether Germany will retain its dominant share as MiCA implementation proceeds, with outcomes depending on market developments and pending applications. Other EU members are expected to increase authorisations over time, aligning roughly with the size of their financial sectors. Five member states – Greece, Hungary, Poland, Portugal and Romania – have not issued any MiCA licences as of June 26, according to ESMA data. Italy accounted for 160 of 162 non‑compliant entries in ESMA’s register, while the Netherlands and Slovakia each have one licence, linked to MEXC and LWEX respectively. The distribution of licences underscores continued fragmentation in the rollout of MiCA across the bloc.

USDT Trades at 7% to 10% Premium on Indian Exchanges, Platforms Cite Supply-Demand Imbalance

117d ago · Source: coindesk

USDT trades at a 7% to 10% premium on Indian exchanges on June 30, 2026, according to CoinDCX and CoinSwitch. The premium, which reached roughly ₹102.88 per USDT against an official rate of 94.65 rupees per dollar, exceeds the typical 3% to 4% spread. USDT’s market cap stood at $184.68 billion, making it the largest dollar‑pegged stablecoin. CoinDCX executive vice president Minal Thakur said the INR price reflects local order‑book depth versus the global dollar reference and that India’s net buying of crypto often creates a shortage of sell‑side liquidity near the global price. CoinSwitch co‑founder and CEO Ashish Singhal added that the premium signals the arbitrage band and that exchanges set prices only through buyer‑seller interaction. Both stated they impose no hidden fees beyond disclosed brokerage. The premium coincided with heightened exchange activity and followed Enforcement Directorate remarks on USDT payments, though the agency did not alter supply levels. Tax rules — a flat 30% levy on gains, a 1% transaction TDS, and limits on loss offsets — have contributed to reduced liquidity and price dislocations. Similar premiums have appeared in other markets when demand outpaces supply. The episode shows how regulatory and tax conditions can influence stablecoin pricing in emerging markets.

Bitcoin Trades Below Key Onchain and Technical Levels, Remains under $60,000

117d ago · Source: coindesk

Bitcoin traded at $59,467.50 on June 29, 2026, staying below $60,000 and key onchain and technical levels.

The True Mean Price was estimated at $76,300, the 200‑day moving average at $75,500, the 128‑day moving average at $70,900, and the Short Term Holder Cost Basis at $69,600.

Additional metrics included the Long Term Holder Cost Basis at $49,900, the Coin Time Price at $51,700, and the Realized Price at $53,200.

These levels represent various onchain and technical benchmarks that historically have acted as support or resistance.

In past bear market cycles, Bitcoin has traded about 5‑10 % below these metrics, suggesting a potential downside target around $45,000 if the pattern repeats.

Whether the price will recover above these thresholds or continue to decline remains unclear.

Strategy Authorizes Bitcoin Sales, $2 Billion Buyback, and Dividend Funding

117d ago · Source: cryptoslate

Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) shares rose 3.9% to $85.52 after announcing a new Digital Credit Capital Framework that permits the company to use Bitcoin sales, up to $2 billion in buybacks, and dividend funding to meet preferred stock obligations. The firm, led by Executive Chairman Michael Saylor, said its US dollar reserve of $2.55 billion as of June 28 could cover preferred dividends and interest for about 17.4 months. A board‑approved policy will require the company to maintain a minimum reserve equal to at least 12 months of those payments. Strategy holds 847,363 Bitcoin valued at roughly $50.7 billion, representing its largest corporate Bitcoin holding and an unrealized loss of more than $13 billion. The company also authorized a $1 billion program to repurchase Digital Credit Securities such as STRC, STRF, STRD and STRK, and a separate $1 billion common‑stock repurchase authorization. Additionally, the dividend rate on Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock (STRC) was raised to 12% from 11.5%, effective for periods with record dates on or after July 1. Analyst Quinn Thompson of Lekker Capital described the moves as a positive step for institutional confidence, while noting that a 50‑basis‑point dividend increase alone may not be enough to restore STRC’s price near its $100 par value. The framework formalizes a shift that began with a recent sale of 32 Bitcoin for about $2.5 million, the first significant Bitcoin sale in the company’s history, and provides flexibility to manage liquidity without relying solely on equity issuance.

Corporate Bitcoin Treasury Firms Face Investor Scrutiny Over Dilution

117d ago · Source: cryptoslate

On June 22, Strategy sold $335.5 million of common stock, kept roughly $300 million in cash and used the remainder to buy 520 Bitcoin, raising its total holdings to 847,363 BTC, the largest share among public companies.

For the past two years, companies that announced Bitcoin purchases often saw their stock rise, because investors viewed additional Bitcoin as a direct benefit to shareholders.

The market premium that previously allowed equity issuance above the value of Bitcoin holdings has narrowed, a condition known as mNAV compression, which compares a company's market value to the value of its Bitcoin reserves.

When the premium fades, issuing new shares can transfer value to new investors at the expense of existing shareholders, a dynamic now being evaluated by the market.

Metaplanet, which holds 40,177 Bitcoin worth about $2.4 billion, reports an mNAV of 0.9x and a negative quarterly Bitcoin Yield of -0.40%, and its chief executive has indicated a willingness to consider share buybacks if the mNAV falls below 1.0x and has halted new common‑share issuance at that level.

Strategy, the largest public Bitcoin holder with 847,363 BTC and more than $13.5 billion of preferred equity, recorded a decline in its year‑to‑date Bitcoin Yield to 11.8% from 13% a month earlier and an increase in diluted share count to about 388.6 million shares.

The company financed roughly 55% of its 174,300 Bitcoin purchases this year through STRC perpetual preferred issuance, and the recent equity raise was used to fund preferred dividend obligations.

In Europe, Capital B, the French listed firm formerly known as The Blockchain Group, received shareholder approval on June 17 for up to €5 billion in equity and €100 billion in credit facilities, equivalent to about $120 billion in authorized financing capacity and backed by 3,139 Bitcoin valued at $200 million.

Capital B plans to accumulate 15,000 Bitcoin by the end of 2027 and aims to own 1% of all Bitcoin ever issued.

BTC AB, a Swedish company, launched a rights issue of 195,078 Class A preference shares at SEK 120 each, raising SEK 23.4 million (about $2.5 million) and committing to a 10% annual dividend, with early commitments covering roughly 27% of the offering by June 30.

The shift in investor sentiment reflects a broader move from focusing on who is buying Bitcoin to assessing who bears the cost of financing, including dilution, preferred dividends and debt service.

The rise of spot Bitcoin ETFs, which provide direct exposure at low cost, has reduced the perceived scarcity value of corporate Bitcoin holdings, prompting companies to justify their levered structures with additional benefits such as yield or capital‑market execution.

Analysts note that firms able to issue equity above net asset value and maintain per‑share Bitcoin growth may preserve credibility, while weaker companies could face repricing or limited access to capital.

The companies’ financing strategies now determine their position in the treasury trade, as investors evaluate whether new capital will increase each shareholder’s Bitcoin claim or dilute it.
